Project Descriptions:
Georgia Institute of Technology's Economic Development Institute (EDI) is partnering with the National Park Service to offer energy assistance to the Kings Mountain National Military Park. The park, also known as KIMO, is located near Charlotte, North Carolina. The project at Georgia Tech is broken up into two phases.
Phase I was completed May 7, 1999. In this phase of the project, EDI did the following:
- Trained students in the use of building simulation software, e.g. ASEAM 5.0.
- Modeled KIMO's Visitors Center using ASEAM 5.0.
- Conducted an on-site energy assessment of the Visitors Center with the students and National Park employees.
- Worked with the KIMO employees to formulate a list of possible energy conservation opportunities mainly for the building envelope and also for the HVAC mechanical systems.
Phase II of the project will be complete by August 1, 1999. For this phase of the project, EDI will:
- Develop cost /benefit analysis of the opportunities identified at KIMO.
- Develop a report containing a summary of general building characteristics, energy used indexes, and a detailed presentation of energy conservation recommendations.
- Present the findings to the National Park Service.
Update and Final Reports Final reports will be made available via this web page when ready.
